The country girl goes to the city...

I know, I know, it has been FOREVER since I blogged last, but what can I say...I've been busy. So a quick update of my life in the past month and a half...school is going good, but busy. In my spare time I take naps, play my guitar, learn new stuff on the totally sweet ukulele, take naps, and listen to music. Life is good.

So, my best friend(ish) Renee is doing an internship in New York City, and she decided I should go and visit. I left last Wednesday (the 11th) and spent five days on the wonderful island of Manhattan. It was so much fun. I loved every minute of it. I took loads of pictures (364 to be exact...including a couple of videos).

Here's a brief (well, semi-brief) rundown of what we did:

Wednesday- My travel day. I didn't get in to the Newark airport until pretty late, and we didn't get back to Renee's apartment until around 3 AM. I took my first ride on a train and the subway.

Thursday- Renee had to work a half day, so I slept in and then went for a walk in Central Park. After Renee got off work we went to Grand Central Station, Time Square, Broadway, Washington Square Park (to see the Washington Arch that is in August Rush), and to end the evening we went to Phantom of the Opera on Broadway! It was so amazing!

Friday- We took the ferry to Staten Island so we could see the Statue of Liberty. What a beautiful sight. It was kind of strange to think that one statue could hold so much meaning to a nation. We went to Ground Zero (which you can't really see because there are fences all the way around it because they are building another building where the Twin Towers were). We walked around Brooklyn for a while, and saw the bridge from a distance, but not up close. Renee and I lit prayer candles in St. Patrick's Cathedral (the largest decorated Gothic Catholic cathedral in North America...you have to get all the words in there or else it's not true.) :) We went to Rockefeller Center and watched people ice stake for a while, ate at T.G.I. Fridays in Time Square, and then went to the 86th floor of the Empire State Building to have a look at the lights of the city. It was beautiful. There were so many lights everywhere. It was fun just to walk around and look at the city and all the tiny little people and cars below.

Saturday- We started the day by going to the Brooklyn Bridge. We walked part of it, but not the whole thing. While we were there I got the urge to watch The Newsies. :) I think I will this weekend. Anyway, after the bridge we went to the Metropolitan Museum. It is HUGE!!! We probably didn't even walk through a fourth of it. We weren't there for a super long time, but there was so many things to do...we didn't want to spend all of our time there. It was amazing to see what we did get to see though. We ate dinner at Carnagie Deli and then we went ice skating at Wollman Rink in Central Park. That was so much fun. I love ice skating, but it was even better because we were in CENTRAL PARK!!! Afterwards we went back to Renee's apartment and made sugar cookies with her roommate and a few friends and played the Wii.

Sunday- After church in the Manhattan 3rd ward we went to St. John's Cathedral with Renee's friend Chase and his friend (who was also visiting for the weekend) Justin. We went to Rucker Park too. (For those of you who are not up with the street ball stuff...Rucker Court is where all the big name street ballers play. It is this super nice b-ball court in the middle of the ghetto at the edge of Harlem. I guess it's a pretty big deal.) We went to Grand Central Station again too.

Monday- Renee and I took a little stroll through Central Park to the west side and ate at this wonderful little place called Crepes on Columbus. If you ever go to NYC look this place up because it is AMAZING! After breakfast we went to Strawberry Fields in Central Park and then to the Manhattan Temple. We squeezed in Madison Square Gardens, the world's largest Macy's store, souvenir shopping, and a quick lunch before I had to catch my train to take me to the airport to go home.

It was a super full few days, but it was a blast! Thanks Renee for the best weekend trip ever!!! It almost seems like it didn't happen now that I'm back into my regular routine, but I have pictures to prove that I was really there. :)

Enjoy.

Until next time...
